1932-1933 Famine
The 1932-1933 famine in the Soviet Union, known as the Holodomor in Ukraine, was a severe food shortage caused by forced grain requisitions under Stalin’s policies, combined with poor harvests and economic upheaval. The Soviet government took large amounts of grain, leaving little for local populations, which led to widespread starvation and death. It was worsened by political goals to rapidly industrialize and control food supplies, making millions of people suffer extreme hunger and famine conditions, especially in Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and parts of Russia.
