1921 Tulsa Race Massacre
The 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre was a deadly attack in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where a white mob destroyed the affluent Black neighborhood known as Greenwood, often called "Black Wall Street." Tensions escalated after a Black man was accused of assaulting a white woman, leading to rumors and violence. Over roughly 18 hours, mobs looted, burned homes, businesses, and churches, killing an estimated 100 to 300 Black residents. The event was largely ignored or minimized for decades but is now recognized as one of the most severe acts of racial violence in U.S. history, highlighting systemic racism and injustice.
