1914 General Election
The 1914 General Election in the UK was held shortly before World War I began, mainly to elect Members of Parliament. It resulted in a victory for the Liberal Party, led by Herbert Asquith, who was the Prime Minister. The election focused on issues like social reform and military preparedness. However, the outbreak of war in August 1914 caused the election to be suspended, and the government’s focus shifted to national unity and wartime governance. Consequently, no new election was held during the war, and the existing parliament continued until 1918.
