1745 Jacobite Rising
The 1745 Jacobite Rising was an attempted rebellion in Britain where supporters of Charles Edward Stuart, also known as Bonnie Prince Charlie, aimed to restore his family to the British throne. They opposed the ruling Hanoverian monarchy, viewing it as illegitimate. The uprising gained momentum with a large Scottish army but ultimately failed after key battles, notably at Culloden. The defeat led to severe reprisals against Jacobites and marked the end of major efforts to restore the Stuarts, shaping subsequent British political and cultural history.
