1683 Campaign
The 1683 Campaign, also known as the Battle of Vienna, was a crucial military effort by Christian European forces to defend Vienna and push back the Ottoman Empire’s advancing armies. The Ottomans aimed to capture Vienna, which was a key city controlling Central Europe's access to Eastern Europe. In September 1683, a large Ottoman army besieged the city. European allies, led by King John III Sobieski of Poland, mounted a coordinated relief attack. The decisive Christian victory halted Ottoman expansion into Europe, helping to preserve the region’s independence and shaping future European borders.
